Booking Open: An Interdisciplinary International Online Conference ‘Music, Migration & Mobility’

Artist: Giada Peterle

From 12th-14th September 2022, the Royal College of Music London will host the interdisciplinary international online conference ‘Music, Migration and Mobility’.

The conference aims to bring the mobility humanities and music research in conversation with each other. It will discussmusic as a mobile phenomenon and reflect critically on methodological approaches and theoretical framings of music, especially the music of migrants. It will feature approximately 25 speakers from all over Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia who will explore music and musical history through the lens of mobility, as opposed to static, rigid categories of national or geographical belonging.

The conference will build on the work of the RCM’s current AHRC-funded research project ‘Music, Migration and Mobility’, a collaboration with Royal Holloway University of London, Salzburg University and project partners including Glyndebourne, Senate House Library and the Austrian Cultural Forum. Members of the project’s team will share their own experience of researching the legacies of musicians from Nazi-Europe in Britain and take part in interdisciplinary discussions about music, migration and mobility across different historical periods and genres with scholars and practitioners in a wide variety of fields.

You are warmly invited to join the conversation! Find out more on the main conference page and book your free place here (Booking is free for RCM students and staff, a £1.95 fee applies for external bookings).
